Skyrim: Krein is basically a massive new expansion you can download free now

A fan-made expansion to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim might as well have been made by Bethesda, seriously it’s that good.

A fan-made expansion to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim might as well have been made by Bethesda, seriously it’s that good.

While we endure the agonising wait for The Elder Scrolls VI, which fans believe was announced way too early given it’s only just entered full-on development after Starfield, we can still enjoy new content in Bethesda’s older titles thanks to mods.

Check out Starfield below!

Mods basically go hand-in-hand with Bethesda games, so much so that the developer has strived to integrate them in all versions of its new releases via Creation Club, which will soon become Creation Club 2.0 for Starfield next year.

Out of Bethesda’s enormous library, it’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that’s seen the most love when it comes to gameplay tweaks and new content created by fans, including brilliant story expansions that could have been made by Bethesda itself.

The latest and greatest expansion making the rounds is called Krein, created and released by Digital Serpent. It’s absolutely massive, featuring an entirely new map that reportedly “dwarfs Skyrim's Dragonborn DLC in size.”

Aside from a whole new part of the world to explore, integrated seamlessly into Skyrim’s existing areas, there’s also a new storyline to follow. This is paired beautifully with an abundance of side content, more weapons and armour that weren’t present in the base game, and an original soundtrack to top it all off.

The expansion supposedly focuses more on puzzle-solving and RPG-style encounters, meaning it’s a unique experience compared to the standard hack-and-slash gameplay the game revolves around.

To successfully download and play the mod, you’ll need access to the Dragonborn and Dawnguard DLC, which is conveniently included in the modern versions of Skyrim, so no trouble there.

It might not be The Elder Scrolls VI, but it’ll do for now, especially since we likely won’t be seeing the next instalment in the Elder Scrolls series for quite some time.

You can download and install the Krein expansion it via NexusMods.
