Red Dead Redemption 2 is about to get a wealth of new content that we’ve never seen before, and we can’t wait.
Alongside the Grand Theft Auto series, Rockstar Games’ next biggest property is the wild west series, Red Dead Redemption. While the series started with Red Dead Revolver in 2004 on the PlayStation 2 and the original Xbox, the series really became mainstream in 2010.
In 2010, we were treated to Red Dead Redemption, arguably one of the greatest video games of all-time, starring the somewhat lovable criminal, John Marston, played by Robert Allen Wiethoff.
John Marston is desperate to leave his criminal life in the past, and provide for his family, his wife Abigail and son, Jack, after leaving the infamous band of outlaws, collectively known as the Dutch van der Lind gang.

Then in 2018, we had Red Dead Redemption 2, which, despite the number in the title, is a prequel to the 2010 game. In the prequel, we play as Arthur Morgan (Roger Clark), a leading member of the aforementioned Dutch van der Linde gang. Much like the 2010 title, Red Dead Redemption 2 is also considered to be one of the greatest video games of all time.
Official Mod Support Announced by Rockstar Games
So, how do you improve on near perfection, I hear you ask? Well, this is where the ever-vibrant modding community comes into play. Whether it's bug fixes, graphics and performance improvements or new missions, modders have you covered.
Since it arrived on PC in 2019, Red Dead Redemption 2 has benefited from a plethora of mods, and the same can be said for Red Dead Redemption, which was later released on PC in 2024.

However, up until recently, the Red Dead modding community hasn't had all that much assistance from Rockstar Games. Thankfully, earlier this week, Rockstar Games announced a collaboration with the Cfx Marketplace, a curated storefront that allows modders to share their work with the community.

This means that players who host their own servers in not only Red Dead Online but also GTA Online can implement mods selected from the Cfx Marketplace.
This might bring new areas, missions, characters, and much more.
As mentioned in an article from IGN, this collaboration follows Rockstar Games’ acquisition of Cfx, after being impressed with the GTA Online roleplay servers from FiveM and RedM in 2023.
This is great news for roleplay fans associated with Rockstar Games titles, because it not only means that more mods should be available, but it should also make them more accessible.

The only snag with this news is that, as is the case with most mods, this is a PC deal only and will not be available on console. At least for now.
It will be interesting to see how this impacts GTA VI’s new iteration of GTA Online. PC gamers will need to be patient in that respect. Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to be released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 19 November 2026. The PC port hasn't been announced yet.
