The Elder Scrolls VI aside, it’s fair to say that Skyrim is the most popular entry in the acclaimed Bethesda series.

For good reason, Skyrim is fantastic and I’m not sure I’d be able to argue it down from the franchise’s top spot.

That being said, I have a major fondness for Morrowind, perhaps as it pertains to my earliest gaming memories.

You see, my dad is a big fan of the 2002 action RPG. I’d watch him play on our chunky computer as he’d let me explore, vanquishing the odd enemy.

In fact, he stills owns that original copy and while it is possible to get our PCs to run the 22-year-old classic, I don’t think it would be remiss to wish for a version of Morrowind with a few new bells and whistles.

As it so happens, that exists. Allow me to introduce you to Morrowind Rebirth.

We may as well watch The Elder Scrolls VI’s reveal trailer one more time.

First launched in 2023, Morrowind Rebirth is a complete overhaul of the Bethesda classic, created by modder trancemaster_1988.

“Morrowind Rebirth is a total overhaul for The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind with the aim to enhance the game by rebuilding the world, by rebalancing most aspects of the game, and by improving the graphics,” the project’s description reads.

“Rebirth is mainly aimed at returning players and veterans that have seen and done most things in-game, and want a fresh experience. New players are recommended to try the vanilla experience.”

Almost all cities have new layouts, shops, and places of interest, there are new dungeons, improved landscapes, and more than 20 new creatures have been added.

Additionally, there are over 200 pieces of new armour, spell effects have been improved, gameplay balancing adjustments have been made, and graphics have been vastly overhauled.

And that’s simply skimming over a few highlights.

This mod is the culmination of thousands of hours of work, and it’s still being updated.

In fact, version 6.7 landed just last month.

The latest version fixes various bugs, adds additional details to various open world locations, in addition to adding new clothing, spell, item and armour options as well as several artifacts.

You can download Morrowind Rebirth for free over on moddb, but you will need a base copy of Morrowind on PC to get involved.
