Hillfort Games has announced Long Gone, a new survival adventure game that blends The Last of Us and Fallout.
Survival games in the past recent years have taken many different forms.
Some have gone the open-world sandbox crafting route, while others have opted more for a linear story that keeps you focused on one objective at a time.
Long Gone is a survival game set in a post-apocalyptic suburbia, where you must explore and solve puzzles to uncover the hidden remnants of old society.

Oh, and there are also zombies.
Unlike the highly-detailed character and world design of games like The Last of Us and Fallout, however, Long Gone utilises a 2.5D aesthetic when exploring.
The game employs a pixel-art aesthetic for the overworld, but switches to a more traditional 3D artstyle when exploring indoor environments.
As for solving puzzles, Long Gone apparently “blends elements of adventure, platforming, P&C, and Item-investigator games” – this might also be one for fans of classic LucasArts adventure games.

“A solo-developer's love letter to retro adventure games,” the official description on Steam reads.
“This unique low-poly pixel art game is designed for the controller and brings not only a modern twist with wonderful pixel animation blending a retro-look with a 3D world but also a sense of humor and a much-needed light-heartedness that is juxtaposed against the background of a stark lost world.
“Explore a post-apocalyptic neighborhood frozen in time and filled with hundreds of interactive objects that paint a web of a story of the people that once lived there.
“Featuring an expansive system where you can inspect, carry, combine and interact with hundreds of objects, fully detailed in a unique pixel art low-poly 3D.”

Long Gone currently doesn’t have a release date set in stone. Since Hillfort Games is primarily helmed by a single developer, it’ll likely only be done once it’s done.
However, given the snippets of gameplay we’ve seen already, it looks like it’s already shaping up to be a polished experience.
We’ll wait and see when Hillfort is ready to release more information. If you're interested in keeping up to date on it, the developer has shared some dev diaries over on its YouTube channel.
