Halo fans can enjoy a brand new fan-made campaign today called Halo: Containment, and it’s completely free.

Although Halo: Infinite enjoys a small but dedicated number of players every single day, we’re all really just waiting on the next game to come from Xbox Game Studios.

Rumours of a new Halo game, which is supposedly a remake of Combat Evolved, have suggested that it’ll be coming next year. But remember to take these rumours with a grain of salt, as Microsoft has not officially confirmed anything yet.

On the other hand, we at least have Halo: Containment to keep us occupied for the time being. It’s a fan-made Halo campaign made for VR, with optional support for mouse and keyboard users too.

After four years in development, lead developer Harry Williams has shared a download for the game, which you can play on PC for free. Here’s the trailer so you can see it for yourself.

Looking at the trailer, this project seems to have it all: Brutes, Gravity Hammers, Warthogs, and even a lovely score by Mitchell Broom. The full game lasts for about three hours, and features many more iconic imagery associated with the Halo franchise.

“I’ve been studying Game Development at university and have had the incredible opportunity to connect with studios such as Rockstar and XR Games,” Williams wrote following the release of Halo: Containment.

“During that journey, Containment was reborn. What started as a small experiment to see what Halo might feel like in VR has been drastically improved, expanded, and refined into a full 2.5 hour campaign. Every system, mission, and encounter has been shaped by years of learning, testing, and countless nights of work.”

Williams went on to write what this project means to him, as someone who has worked on it as a solo developer since 2021.

“This trailer represents a huge moment for me. Four years of development have led to this point, and I’m beyond excited to finally share what I’ve been creating. Please keep in mind that Containment was made entirely by myself, so there are bound to be bugs and glitches I haven’t yet come across.”

Well, there you go. Hopefully someone at Halo Studios sees this and brings Williams on board, because their passion for the series is certainly clear.
