Fallout 4 has an alternate prologue that’s way more interesting

Infuse new life into the game

There’s something very comforting in revisiting a favourite game of yesteryear; it doesn’t take me long to find relaxation in the familiarity of, say, a game’s open world.

This being said, prologues can be a real slog.

I don’t mean the first time around because, of course, these slower-paced sections are designed to introduce you to a game’s world and mechanics but they can feel a tad tiresome during replays.

There are exceptions, but I don’t want to digress.

If you’re planning a Fallout 4 playthrough soon and are nodding your head in agreement with everything I’ve said above, you may want to check out the ‘Start Me Up - Alternate Start and Dialogue Overhaul’ mod.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle lands on PS5 this week, and that’s a game with a great prologue.

As you can probably guess from the title, ‘Start Me Up - Alternate Start and Dialogue Overhaul’ adds a brand new prologue to the game which I’d argue is way more interesting than the original option.

This mod is the work of NexusMods user TinyManticore and it offers you three options: the alternate start, quick start, or normal start.

Normal start is what you’re likely thinking it is, it doesn’t change anything so you can still experience the vanilla events even if you previously installed the mod.

Quick start will see you wake up from your memory in your Vault 111 pod, but you’ll skip the pre-war segment and get straight into playing.

The new expanded alternate start will see you wake up from the dream as a different person instead of the parent of Shaun.

You can either be a pre-war vault dweller in Vault 111 which follows a new plotline where you are released from the vault by mistake.

Alternatively, you can start as a wastelander outside of the vault, picking from 38 different occupations and 38 different start locations.

That adds a ton of variety to the game which means that the beginning of every playthrough could go from a slog to something that feels exciting and new.

The mod is totally free to download via NexusMods on PC so do grab it if you’re interested.
