Cyberpunk 2077 fans stunned by new Unreal Engine 5 gameplay

How the sequel will look, probably

Cyberpunk 2077 is officially getting a sequel, and CD Projekt RED says it’ll use Unreal Engine 5 to make it happen.

While there’s no way of knowing for sure, some of the latest tech demos for Unreal Engine 5 are giving us a clue as to what the future of games could look like, including Cyberpunk 2, or whatever it’ll be called.

That said, Cyberpunk 2077 looks nearly flawless right now, especially on PC with the latest RTX hardware.

The Cyber Streets UE5 demo, created by Sciontidesign, can be seen on YouTube or played for yourself online. It's just a simple demo of a man walking through a city in the evening, albeit one with major impact.

It’s got everything a Cyberpunk world needs: neon lights, rain puddles on the floor, some fancy vehicles and more.

CD Projekt RED confirmed a while ago that the next Cyberpunk game, whatever it may be called, will use Unreal Engine 5 like The Witcher IV, so this demo probably isn’t a far cry from what we’ll get when it comes out.

Of course, Unreal Engine 5 is still relatively new and getting better every day so God only knows what graphics are going to be like in a few years.

“This is pretty wild considering there is no path tracing, RTX, DLSS, or baked lighting,” said one person in the comments of a playthrough by YouTuber John Papadopoulos.

Another added, “Now this is what I'm talking about. I want a full game like this. No first-person only crap where I can't even see my own character nor any of the customisations.”

Some actually don’t vibe with Unreal Engine 5 though, like one commenter who said, “Seeing this engine, I feel like I'm looking at something generic. Cyberpunk Orion [the game's codename] will be awful. I want RedEngine back!”

We’re several years away from even catching a glimpse of the next Cyberpunk game anyway, so let’s just wait and see what CD Projekt RED cooks up.
