Fair to say, we’re well overdue for an update on the current status of the BioShock series.

It was all the way back in 2016 that BioShock: The Collection was released, so you can understand why fans are craving something new.

A new instalment is reportedly in development but there’s a messy backstory to consider.

After the launch of BioShock Infinite, series creator Ken Levine announced that it would be Irrational Games’ latest BioShock game.

The franchise’s rights have been with 2K Games ever since with the company adamant that the series would continue.

The series was passed over to 2K Marin but then that studio was reportedly closed. It then spent a brief time in the hands of the third-party Certain Affinity before 2K brought development back in-house.

In 2019, we then discovered that new studio Cloud Chamber would be heading up the project but we’ve heard very little since.

Ken Levine, on the other hand, is charging ahead with his new BioShock-esque project, titled Judas, which is set to launch PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

Take a look at Judas in action below.

Given the stalemate we find ourselves in, we’re going to have to return to BioShock titles of yesteryear.

It just so happens that you can now experience an incredible graphical overhaul of BioShock 2 Remastered thanks to a new mod pack.

As reported by DSOGaming, this HD texture pack is the work of modder FCH823, and it adds over 3,500 new textures to BioShock 2 Remastered.

As you can imagine, that transforms the experience so if you have been contemplating a fresh playthrough, you might want to download this mod first.

The new textures are more detailed and way less pixelated than their original counterparts as they’ve been upscaled from their original resolutions.

The mod’s creator points out that the mod project should be compatible with all editions of Bioshock 2 Remastered, but it will not be compatible with the original Bioshock 2.

It’s around 13GB unzipped and will add 22GB to your game folder, so you’ll need sufficient room.

If you tick all of those boxes though, ‘BioShock 2 Remastered - HD Texture Pack’ is free to download from NexusMods now.
