If you tuned into the recent Nintendo Indie World event then you’re perhaps familiar with Mina The Hollower.

This adorable action-adventure title from Yacht Club Games is set to launch later this year on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4 and 5, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S - on 31 October, to be exact.

You can though, ahead of its release, sample a demo on both Nintendo Switch platforms now, with 120fps supported on the Nintendo Switch 2.

If you’re completely in the dark as to what Mina The Hollower is, I’d begin by saying it’s most definitely a game for The Legend of Zelda fans.

It centres around Mina, an inventor and ‘hollower’ who essentially travels through dungeon-like zones across the Tenebrous Isle in a bid to discover why the Spark Generators she invented to power the island have extinguished.

When I liken the game to The Legend of Zelda, I’m most definitely talking about those initial pixel art entries, as Mina The Hollower looks like the type of title that would’ve felt right at home on a Game Boy Color.

‘Hollowing’ is one of Mina’s key moves and allows her to essentially burrow underground.

Alongside that, she can fend off enemies using a variety of weapons, including hatchets and daggers - although only one can be held at a time.

If the studio Yacht Club Games is ringing a bell, it is behind the acclaimed Shovel Knight series.

As for Mina The Hollower’s demo, it allows you to play the game’s opening stage, concluding with the first major boss fight.

All progress made will carry over should you pick up the full release in October.

The only downside here is that it’s a limited time demo, so you need to download and play it before 21 August.

As an added tidbit, devs tease that “something may happen” if you use your Joy-Con 2 as a mouse, so I suggest you give that a whirl.

I haven’t sampled the demo yet myself but it already comes highly recommended by GAMINGbible’s Sam Cawley.

Simply search Mina The Hollower on the Nintendo eShop and select ‘Download Demo’.
