Pokémon Coral is essentially a mod that runs within an emulator, and it’s built off Pokémon Crystal.

If you, like me, have been hungry for an old school Pokémon adventure, then a new release from the community might be just the ticket.

It’s an entirely new game created to honour and pay homage to what many consider the golden age of Pokémon games.

You can see the project in full on the Pokécommunity website, but it has also been showcased over on Twitter, too.

There is currently a demo available to play, and it’s likely to get its hooks in and transport you back to the ‘good old days’ of top-down Pokémon adventures.

Pokémon Coral brings players to a new region called Onwa where a curated group of Pokémon hang out.

I say curated as there is always a fear you’ll be hunting down hundreds of Pokémon due to the burgeoning number out there.

However, Pokémon Coral’s creators have hand-picked Pokémon they believe fit the game best.

This demo, and the game itself, has been around for a couple of years but is seeing new light after being rebuilt from the ground up.

As a dedicated Pokémon fan, nothing thrills me more than seeing the trailer for this game.

It takes me back to when the franchise felt more streamlined and accessible, not bogged down by having to break new ground with each release.

It looks gorgeous too, with delightful pixel art that makes you feel like a kid again.

Combining new and old abilities and fighting moves, Pokémon Coral really feels like the greatest hits of the series, bringing things that everyone loves.

And it’s only going to continue growing with this team working away on it, so make sure to bookmark this project and keep checking in with it.
