Nintendo Drops New Joy-Con Controller, Absolute Fire

Subtle, but pretty nice

If you’re a fan of lilac and turquoise, boy oh boy, you’ve come to the right place. Over on the Nintendo Today app, Nintendo has unveiled a brand new Joy-Con 2 set.

It’s officially titled ‘Light Purple and Light Green’ which is a horrendous title, if you ask me, because that’s definitely lilac and turquoise - the latter being a shade of blue, not green.

The questionable naming aside though, this is a pretty nice colour scheme, if you’re in the market for some new Joy-Cons which, admittedly, probably isn’t very likely given that the Nintendo Switch 2 only launched last year.

This new Joy-Con 2 set is due to land next month, on 12 February to be exact, coinciding with the release date of Mario Tennis Fever.

Personally, I quite like the sleek aesthetic of the Nintendo Switch 2. As you’ll likely be aware, Joy-Cons for the Nintendo Switch 2 are mainly black, in line with the rest of the console.

Much of the colouring is hidden when they’re actually plugged in as the coloured segment forms the magnetised strip that is secured somewhat inside the Nintendo Switch 2.

There is, however, a small featured coloured ring around the analog sticks that allows you to showcase your Joy-Con 2 colour-way of choice, at the very least.

It’s with this in mind though that I don’t see many Nintendo fans collecting Joy-Con 2 sets.

The fact that each colour theme is barely distinguishable when plugged in sure does make the idea of purchasing additional Joy-Cons less desirable, if you don’t need them for multiplayer games.

Already, it appears as if the new design is available for pre-order via the official Nintendo store.

The purple and green set will set you back $99.99.

Nintendo Fans Aren’t Overly Impressed

The fact that you can’t really see the new colours when the Joy-Con 2 controllers are plugged in has made for a rather underwhelming response.

“I feel like it loses some lustre when you can only see the colour on the sticks unless using them detached,” Reddit user Fenicillin wrote.

“So they’re staying mainly black with accent colours,” added memeaste.

“Considering you basically still see black and just a tinge of the colour under the sticks, this kinda sucks. I want ACTUAL colours,” remarked Chompsky_Honk.

Kbrito9 said, “Sucks that's mostly black still... I'll wait for more colourful ones.”

You get the idea.

So if you fancy a new set of Joy-Con 2 controllers, these may float your boat, but I really don’t see them flying off the shelves.
