The weekend is almost upon us, and it’s with that in mind that Nintendo has perfectly timed adding three more classic titles to its Nintendo Switch Online catalogue.
You can now download and enjoy three NES must-plays.
As a reminder, you only need a subscription to the base tier of Nintendo Switch Online in order to enjoy the NES catalogue, so don’t worry if you don’t have the pricey +Expansion Pack tier.
Let’s begin with arguably the most iconic of the three games, PAC-MAN.
Advert
Originally having landed in 1988, PAC-MAN needs no introduction, proving just as popular today as this little yellow fellow did when he graced us with his presence way back when.
PAC-MAN, of course, began life as an arcade classic before it was ported to just about every console in existence over the years.
Players must evade ghosts all whilst munching away at the dots that cover the game’s on-screen maze.
It’s a very moreish formula that I still enjoy via a little nifty mini handheld made just for the game.
Alternatively, you might want to try out 1989’s Mendel Palace.
This puzzler was developed by Game Freak, of Pokémon fame, and sees the player character tasked with saving their girlfriend who has been kidnapped.
It’s not all that different from PAC-MAN. Players work their way across a tiled grid, avoiding an enemy character.
They can flip floor tiles to propel enemies away, or destroy them entirely by flipping them into a wall.
As you progress, the difficulty intensifies as you encounter enemies who also share the ability to flip tiles.
It’s an interesting little game that’ll likely leave you screaming in frustration whilst still coming back for more.

Finally, there’s The Tower of Druaga which arrived in 1985, making it the earliest offering here.
Developed by Namco, players step into the shoes of Gilgamesh, a golden-armoured knight who must scale a tower to rescue the maiden Ki from a demon known as Druaga.
Much like the aforementioned two games, it’s played on a grid with players needing to find a key to progress to the next level all whilst fending off various enemies including slimes, knights, wizards, ghosts, and dragons.
The Tower of Druaga was once adapted into an anime so if the name rings a bell, it could be due to that.

A Mii Fighter costume based upon Gilgamesh has also featured in several Smash Bros. titles, so The Tower of Druaga is a valued entry in Nintendo’s back catalogue.
All three titles are available to enjoy for free on Nintendo Switch Online now within the cost of your subscription.
