Nintendo Switch To Add New Free Game You Shouldn't Miss

Just in time for Halloween.

Nintendo Switch Online is adding a new free game that you shouldn’t miss, and it comes just in time for Halloween.

You may be subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online for the online multiplayer or the save cloud features. Or, it may just be that you want the free games.

It’s one of the service’s standout features now that active subscribers get access to various retro games from the classic Nintendo library. Depending on which tier you’re subscribed, and what console you own, you have access to NES, SNES, N64, and even GameCube games.

Lucky for you, another game is hitting the Nintendo GameCube - Nintendo Classics app next week for all Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack users.

On 30th October, Luigi’s Mansion will be joining the app, allowing all subscribers to play the game just in time for Halloween. This marks the sixth game to come to the app this year, after The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker, F-Zero GX, SOULCALIBUR II, Super Mario Strikers, and Chibi-Robo.

The GameCube games are only available for Nintendo Switch 2 users on the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack tier of the subscription.

Unfortunately, gamers who are still on the original Switch console don’t get access to GameCube games, presumably due to the additional power needed to run the games efficiently.

The original Luigi’s Mansion was released in 2001 for the Nintendo GameCube, and was the first game in the Mario series to be published on the console.

In the game, players control Luigi as he explores a haunted mansion to try and rescue Mario. He comes across various ghosts he must battle by capturing them inside a vacuum cleaner.

The series continued with Luigi’s Mansion 2, which was originally released for the 3DS and later came to the Nintendo Switch, with Luigi’s Mansion 3 coming in 2019. The original Luigi’s Mansion was also remade for 3DS in 2018, bringing upgraded graphics and new touch controls to the game.

With the release of Luigi’s Mansion under the Nintendo Classics label next week, that means we can now play the entire trilogy on Nintendo Switch 2 consoles. Happy days.

It does come as a bit of a sting to anyone who was holding out hope for Luigi’s Mansion to receive a proper remaster in the same vein as the recent Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 remasters from earlier this month. But still, never say never.
