Nintendo Switch players can claim two glorious free games from the '90s that were released on the N64.
Since the very first Nintendo console arrived in 1985 with the NES, it has provided countless memories that will last a lifetime and generations to come.
In this day and age, especially, financial restrictions can be quite the challenge to navigate when trying to maintain our hobby of playing video games. It doesn't matter whether we play on PC, PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo. Gaming is not cheap.
Subscription Services Can Save Money
It’s why subscription services such as PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass can be great ways to save money, regardless of the tier you pay for. Each subscription service offers a variety of games that we can play in an instant, as well as exclusive discounts, bonus DLC and more.
Depending on the PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass tiers, you can play a plethora of retro games. So, whether you wanted to relive some childhood memories or see what all the fuss is about as someone who may not have gamed during a certain generation, it’s a nice option to have.

Nintendo does things a little differently. Just like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass, Nintendo Switch Online and its upper tier, Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, offer access to online gaming, DLC, discounts and whatnot.
Rather than offering titles of this generation and the ones before, the games offered in the Nintendo subscription service included exclusively retro games, whether it’s the SNES, N64, GameCube and so forth.
New Classics Additions Come To Nintendo Switch Online
The latest free offerings are from the N64. Those games are Ubisoft’s Rayman 2: The Great Escape (1999) and Tonic Trouble (1999). Both games will be available to play via the ‘Classics App’ on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on Wednesday, 17 December.
“All rested up from his past adventures, Rayman is ready for action in a new dimension! Ruthless pirates have invaded the Glades of Dreams to capture and enslave Rayman’s friends. Will he save them? Only you can find out!” reads the synopsis of Rayman 2: The Great Escape.
“Experience the thrills of a wild ski slope ride, an out-of-control robotic suitcase, burning toast and ancient mummies as you attempt to achieve a seemingly impossible task,” explains the description of Tonic Trouble. “Spin into this 3D action-adventure and help Ed become Super Ed and solve the riddles to save the world before it is too late.”
Now, Nintendo, if you would start releasing some of those classic Game Boy and DS Pokémon games on the subscription service, that would be great. Thanks in advance.
