The Nintendo Switch 2 is about to get one of its best games in years, and no we’re not talking about The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake.
Back in 2024, we saw fierce competition for the coveted Game of the Year award, and we reckon 2026 is going to be just as intense. GTA VI is most likely to come out on top, but plenty of other games released this year will put up a good fight.
The Nintendo Switch 2 will soon be welcoming one of these 2024 bangers to its ever-growing library of ports: Metaphor: ReFantazio.
Atlus West and SEGA’s RPG narrowly lost to PlayStation’s Astro Bot, but still made a strong impression on gamers everywhere.

Metaphor’s Switch 2 port is perfect for those who fell off the game on PlayStation 5/Xbox
As a fan of the Persona series, I dived into Metaphor: ReFantazio at awesome speed, expecting another banger from Atlus West.
While I did enjoy my time with the game, it’s obviously quite the departure from what we’ve received from Atlus so far and, unfortunately, I never got round to finishing it. I think I got halfway through, was distracted by other games, and never returned.
However, I’d be lying if I said the Nintendo Switch 2 port hasn’t rekindled my interest in reaching the game’s credits. In fact, I’d argue this port is the best chance you’ll ever get to fall back in love with the game after a long hiatus.
In my experience, Persona games and others like it feel rejuvenated on portable consoles like the Nintendo Switch 2.
These are long games with a lot of dialogue and just as much dungeon-crawling, and given how little free time we tend to have nowadays, actually committing to sitting down and playing a game like that can often be harder than the game itself.
The Nintendo Switch 2 port feels like a blessing though. It’s the ultimate pick-up and put-down console, and I think that’s going to heavily compliment Metaphor: ReFantazio’s gameplay.
Of course it won’t fix any issues you may have with the aesthetic. Persona has mass-appeal because of its slice-of-life moments, whereas Metaphor: ReFantazio caters to the fantasy crowd. I only tend to be interested in dark-fantasy which is probably another reason why the game didn’t keep me on the hook.
I have faith that the Nintendo Switch 2 port is going to be excellent though, if not the definitive way to play the game.
If you fell off Metaphor: ReFantazio like I did, I’d implore you give the new Nintendo Switch 2 demo a go, and see if the experience feels better for you.
