Nintendo Switch 2 gamers are being permanently banned from using their consoles

Nintendo ain't playing around this time

Several Nintendo Switch 2 users are reporting that they’ve been permanently banned from using its online features, proving that Nintendo was serious about following through with updates they made to their User Agreement and Privacy Policy prior to the console’s launch.

As spotted by Dexerto's Dylan Horetski, users on the r/switch2hacks subreddit have reported being banned from using the Nintendo Switch 2’s online services, following the use of MiG flash cartridges.

MiG flash carts are essentially just little cartridges that bypass certain security restrictions on the Nintendo Switch 2, allowing users to play pirated games that they’ve loaded onto the cartridge. They work in basically the same way that similar flash carts did on the Nintendo DS.

However, it seems Nintendo has gotten a little savvier about detecting these flash carts this time round, because several users in a thread titled “MiG flash ban” state that their consoles are no longer able to access online services after using them.

“I used it when the Mig flash update went live. My console got banned”, commented user MistaLin.

“I checked my account on Switch OLED and am not banned from services there.”

“I had the same thing. Hit a few hours ago. I have only used my own backed-up games on the mig switch and got the ban hammer. At least it is confirmed that they can detect the MIG switch”, replied user shawn232.

“I say this because my switch 1 and OLED, along with my son's Switch 1, have yet to get the ban. Unfortunately, as the idea of having all of my games on one cart was nice, though, I am not surprised it happened.”

This news follows updates to Nintendo’s User Agreement policy back in May, in which they stated that Nintendo Switch 2s would be rendered “permanently unusable in whole or in part” should users “fail to comply with the foregoing restrictions”.

Seems Nintendo really aren’t messing around this time, so I’d suggest that the type of folks interested in homebrew software hold off on modding their consoles (for the time being, at least).
