Nintendo Switch 2 users discover setting that makes 'massive difference' to your experience

Big improvement

Nintendo Switch 2 users are just discovering a setting that makes a huge difference to your experience.

Launched nearly two weeks ago, the Switch 2 has been a massive success for Nintendo, with already several million units sold.

Considering the first Nintendo Switch shipped around 150 million units in its lifetime, its successor is off to a good start.

Now, users are reporting that changing one specific feature has helped them to get more out of their system.

With complaints about battery life and the picture sometimes looking washed out, one Switch 2 user in particular has suggested turning on the HDR Output to Compatible Software Only.

This option can be found by going to settings, scrolling down to Display, and then finally navigating to HDR Output.

Setting this to On for all games, which includes software that doesn’t support HDR, leads to everything looking a little washed out and contrasted. It’s better to keep it to compatible games only.

“Setting HDR to compatible software only made such a massive difference for me,” wrote a reply in the comments. “I was really disappointed with how washed out and desaturated everything looked - turn on that setting and it fixed it completely.”

It also drains the console’s battery, which isn’t good if you’re trying to squeeze some more juice out of it on those long road trips.

They also recommend changing a battery option so the Switch 2 only charges to 90%, which can be found under the System menu in settings.

This will prevent the lithium battery from constantly charging to 100% when in the dock, which may ruin its long-term health.

Though, we understand that with a full charge only lasting a few hours, that extra 10% can make a huge difference.

So if you decide to keep that turned off, you might want to take it off the dock to prevent excess charging once it hits 100%.
