Losing saved data is one of the biggest fears that gamers have to contend with, especially if that saved data consists of 20-years worth of progress.

Unfortunately, that is what recently happened to the new owner of the Nintendo Switch 2 after they lost all of their saved data after transferring it from the Switch OLED to the newest Nintendo handheld.

Pokémon fans will know that it has almost always been possible to import your trained monsters from one game to the next, which for some people, means having the same Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet as they did back with the original Game Boy.

As you can imagine, this saved data would come to mean a lot and the idea of losing it is not one people would even like to consider.

For Reddit user ThatOtaku26, the worst came true after they recently lost their saved data when migrating to the Nintendo Switch 2.

“I'm about to cry. 1000+ hours and 20 years of ‘Mons gone,” they shared over on r/PokemonScarletViolet.

The user soon discovered that their saved data had been wiped from both the Switch OLED and the Nintendo Switch 2 and as of right now, there is no way to get it back considering that Pokémon does not support saves to the Cloud.

Fortunately, it seems as though this is a very rare occurrence but the fact that it can happen to at least one person has been enough to scare other Nintendo Switch 2 owners.

Additionally, there is also no way of knowing why exactly this did occur and so fans are encouraging Pokémon owners to transfer any important Pokémon over to Pokémon Home before transferring any saved data over to the Nintendo Switch 2.

If data should get corrupted then, at least your Pokémon will be safe even if the data is lost.

It is unclear if ThatOtaku26 has managed to restore any of their lost data but it is definitely a heartbreaking tale to say the least.
