I sincerely hope everyone who wants to play the Nintendo Switch 2 at launch got their preorders done last week.

Nintendo offered preorders in a very strange way on its main website, and for those who weren’t invited to make a preorder through Nintendo itself will have had to hope and pray they could get on through retailers instead.

If you were successful you haven’t got that long to wait, until 5 June when the Nintendo Switch 2 launches worldwide

Unfortunately the Nintendo Switch 2’s worldwide launch might not go as originally planned, specifically in China where the console’s release date is severely delayed.

Nikkei Asia originally reported that Nintendo has delayed the release date of the Switch 2 in China due to an “apparent response to the country’s tight controls targeting the gaming industry.”

It also gives the company a chance to determine how many units will be needed for its Chinese audience, so when it does eventually launch there won’t be any issues with supply and demand.

However this does mean that on the launch day of the Nintendo Switch 2, millions of gamers will be unable to join in on the fun as they’ll still be waiting for their new consoles.

It’s unclear how long the delay will last too, it could be weeks, months, or maybe even a year depending on how the situation in China shapes out.

The rest of the world should be unaffected though, good news for those in the U.S at least as those new tariffs could have likely played havoc with the Nintendo Switch 2’s pricing if they were put in place earlier.

That said Nintendo fans in the U.S have still taken great offence to the price of the new Nintendo console, as well as how much the new games will cost.
