Gaming is a pricey hobby, and the financial burden felt by gamers is only growing heavier.
With each subsequent console generation, hardware, software, and subscription services are all steadily increasing in price.
This is true of all brands, but it’s perhaps apt here to look to Nintendo for a case study.
First-party releases cost between $30 and $40 at launch within the Nintendo DS era which ran throughout the mid to late 00s.

Today, first-party Nintendo Switch 2 games set gamers back between $70 and $80.
It’s with this in mind that you’re assumedly not going to pass up on the opportunity to nab $15 of free store credit on both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
This is courtesy of an offer from US-based retailer Target, as spotted by ComicBook.
Anyone who purchases a $100 Nintendo eShop gift card from Target by 11 April will also nab a $15 Nintendo eShop gift card totally for free.
The only caveat here is that, of course, you do have to make a pricey purchase in order to secure the free credit but it may not be an unreasonable ask if you’re after any of Nintendo’s recent releases.
Pokémon Pokopia, Mario Tennis Fever, and Super Mario Bros. Wonder – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Meetup in Bellabel Park are Nintendo’s major new arrivals.

They’ll soon be joined by Tomodatchi Life: Living The Dream on 18 April and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book on 21 May.
If you intend to buy two of those games, you’ll be looking to spend over $100, so it may be worth picking up the Target $100 gift card, nabbing your free credit, and purchasing your chosen titles that way.
If you are eligible for this offer, the free $15 gift card will be issued digitally via email within four hours of your $100 gift card purchase.
The promotion is only available online so should not be attempted within Target stores as you may spend $100 only not to secure the free bonus.
It’s pretty uncommon to see offers of this nature on Nintendo’s systems.

In case you missed it, Nintendo recently announced a permanent price drop for some of its first-party Nintendo Switch 2 titles beginning with Yoshi and the Mysterious Book.
While physical copies will stay priced at $69.99, digital copies will now be priced cheaper at $59.99.
This is something we should continue to see with other new first-party releases going forwards with Nintendo acknowledging the lower production costs involved with digital copies.
