If you tuned into today’s Pokémon Presents, you’ll no doubt be wondering what that surprise announcement was at the end of the presentation, yet another open world Pokémon game that’ll debut in 2025.

Like almost every Pokémon Presents today’s broadcast felt like a bit of a letdown considering fans were hoping to see remakes of the Gen II and Black & White games, as well as a new Pokémon: Legends game. Luckily fans hoping for the latter will be pleased to know that a new Legends game is indeed in development set in the Kalos region, called Pokémon Legends Z-A.

Check out the trailer for the new game below

The trailer itself didn’t give us much to go off, but it seems to be hyping itself up as the next evolution of the pocket monster video games. It followed Pikachu racing through a digital world as a variety of polygonal Pokémon existed in the background, before eventually fading out to the new logo. Eagle-eyed fans may have noticed that Mega Evolutions were teased in the trailer as well.

A release date of 2025 was shared, and at first glance you might suspect the game is hinting at being a launch title for the rumoured Nintendo Switch 2, though it was recently confirmed the game will indeed be a title for the current Nintendo Switch.

This will surely be a disappointment for fans, as the last few titles like Pokémon Legends: Arceus and Pokémon Scarlet & Violet were slated for their poor graphics and low performance on Nintendo’s now-dated console. Unfortunately it seems fans have to endure one more game before they can finally experience the world of Pokémon on next-gen hardware.

Aside from the brief trailer, no other details were shared and we didn’t see any actual gameplay or in-game screenshots.

Pokémon Legends Z-A will release in 2025 for the Nintendo Switch, with additional details potentially coming later in the year during another Pokémon Presents, if one is aired.
