The Legend Of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time is one of the best games Nintendo ever made. It’s a masterpiece that’ll be fondly remembered for many more years to come.

While The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask is an incredible sequel and one of my favourite games ever, it was very divisive. Many players didn’t like having to manage their time and even I can admit the first few hours of the game are pretty weak compared to Ocarina Of Time.

If you agree with that you might like The Legend Of Zelda: Sands Of Time, a fan-made sequel to Ocarina Of Time that you can play for free online.

It’s worth noting early that Sands Of Time is a ROMhack of the game, and to play it legally you’ll need an original copy of Ocarina Of Time, as we all know Nintendo’s stance on piracy.

In this Zelda game Hyrule has been absolutely decimated by Ganondorf, as it follows a timeline where he was never sealed away and could go about his destructive business unchecked.

The Link you play as isn’t trying to save this world, he’s just trying to survive in it by finding Ganondorf’s hidden treasure and power.

Hyrule looks like nothing we’ve seen before in this game, with a steampunk, industrial aesthetic indicative of how Ganondorf ruled the lands.

Those who’ve played it have had a lot to say about, much of which is positive like Reddit user bowserthegigachad who says “trust me when I say this hack is good like really good.”

I’d urge you to check it out for yourself as it’s quite the change in tone from your typical Legend Of Zelda game.

With Nintendo getting more experimentative with Zelda games in recent years it’d be great to see one with a darker tone pop up at some point for the Nintendo Switch 2.
