The Legend of Zelda fans are hopeful for some news regarding the future of the series, and we could be getting that as soon as this week.

Ever since the release of the Switch 2 in June, fans have been holding their breath for Nintendo to announce a new Direct to reveal some upcoming games.

Following the releases of Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza, we still have Metroid Prime 4 and Pokémon Legends: Z-A to look forward to. But what of the next game in The Legend of Zelda series?

The latest rumour surrounding the next Nintendo Direct appears to be settled on 31 July, as the company is scheduling a maintenance period for “acquiring stage data” just a day earlier on 30 July.

Between 11:00PM PT on 30 July, and 12:30AM PT on 31 July, Nintendo Switch Online services will be unavailable.

This has sparked speculation that Nintendo could be preparing for a new Direct the day after, which also adds up with what notable Nintendo insiders have been saying.

Considering Zelda fans are still waiting for something, anything, a crumb of information regarding the next game in the series, I imagine this will be met with a lot of hype if true.

Notable insider NateTheHate, who has been correct with this sort of stuff in the past, said earlier this month that a Nintendo Direct was expected in July.

I said a week ago that a Direct would take place this month & I have heard nothing to suggest otherwise.

“I said a week ago that a Direct would take place this month & I have heard nothing to suggest otherwise,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter). So it seems those plans are still on track.

Whether or not Nintendo will actually host a Direct on this date remains to be seen. As always, be sure to take these rumours with a pinch of salt, until they become officially confirmed or denied.

If true, we would probably hear confirmation from Nintendo either today or tomorrow that a Direct is going ahead on the 31 July.
