Cyberpunk 2077 fans blown away by new gameplay footage ahead of new release

Welcome back to Night City

Cyberpunk 2077 fans have now seen new gameplay footage from the Switch 2 version, and it’s nothing short of a miracle.

To put it simply, the original 2020 launch of Cyberpunk 2077 was nothing short of a disaster. On release day the game was full of bugs, visual glitches, performance issues, and lacklustre features.

CD Projekt Red was able to save the game in the post-launch, with years of new features, stability fixes, and bug-patching bringing the game to a state that it should have been at launch.

With Cyberpunk 2077 now confirmed to be coming to Nintendo Switch 2, it’s hard to believe that something that was once a notorious benchmark title is now going to be playable on a device you can fit in your pocket (provided you have slightly larger-than-average pockets, I suppose).

New gameplay footage uploaded to the Switch Handled YouTube channel showcases about 20 minutes of play, demonstrating some Night City exploration, combat, and cutscenes.

The game appears to be running smoothly, with no real hitches in performance or bugs present. It’s effectively a similar experience to playing the game on a PS5 or Xbox Series X now.

“Never thought I'd see Cyberpunk running so well on a Nintendo console. CDProjekt Red worked magic on this,” wrote one user in the comments.

“Very impressed with the Switch 2,” wrote another user. “A little console punch above its weight.”

A third wrote: “It's 30fps and stutters but if it feels responsive that's totally fine for those graphics. It looks amazing and sharp.”

According to Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter, Cyberpunk 2077 offers two graphical modes: Quality and Performance.

Quality Mode targets 1080p and 30FPS, while Performance Mode targets 40FPS, and 1080p while docked and 720p while using handheld. However, Leadbetter asserts that dynamic resolution scaling is also being employed here.

Dynamic resolution scaling is basically a feature of modern graphics cards which allows the resolution to change between two variables in order to keep a consistent framerate.

So, in some areas the game might be able to hit 1080p and 40FPS consistently, but busier gameplay segments may reduce this down to 720p or even 540p to keep the framerate the same.

We’re sure there’ll be more thorough analyses once the game launches in a couple of weeks. Cyberpunk 2077 is due to launch on Nintendo Switch on 5th June, 2025.
