Cyberpunk 2077 fans 'surprised' by new release

I gotta say, this is incredibly impressive

Cyberpunk 2077 fans are already excited for its next upcoming release, but some new information about the quality of its performance has shocked some.

As revealed by CD Projekt RED during Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct, Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2.

Although the new Nintendo Switch 2 boasts some impressive specs, especially for its price, many were immediately concerned about how a game like Cyberpunk 2077 could perform on the handheld; especially given the game’s performance on the likes of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

However, CD Projekt RED just put all of our minds at ease. As revealed by the official Cyberpunk 2077 account on Twitter, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 port seems to be targeting exactly the kind of performance we were hoping for.

“We're still improving the performance, but we're targeting 1080p docked and 720p in handheld mode, with 30-40 FPS,” stated @CyberpunkGame on Twitter.

“Depending on the mode, of course (performance vs quality).”

While that is impressive in itself, the bit that seems to have impressed people the most is related to the capabilities of the Nintendo Switch 2.

In a thread over on the r/GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit detailing the news, commenters were mostly just surprised that Cyberpunk 2077 was going to run on a handheld device with a VRR screen.

“720p 40fps in handheld is pretty good with that VRR screen,” commented user CarbVan.

"That surprises me a lot too," replied user SiriusMoonstar.

"I think most people have no idea, but VRR is fantastic news to me!"

For those unaware, VRR stands for “variable refresh rate”.

As for why that’s impressive, it means that the refresh rate of the Nintendo Switch 2 will match the frame rate.

The fact that the console is even VRR-capable at its price point is impressive on its own, especially considering that Cyberpunk 2077 is going to hit 30 FPS while in handheld mode.
