Guillermo Del Toro is campaigning for P.T's re-release

For P.T, the game that should live!

P.T is easily one of the greatest horror games that never existed. So, who better than the master of the macabre, Guillermo Del Toro, to campaign for its re-release.

I refuse to believe that any gamer doesn’t know what P.T is – even those who label themselves as scaredy cats know this game had tension, scares, and puzzles. It was a psychological horror that stayed with players long after they “finished” it.

Hold onto hope with the Silent Hill 2 remake trailer!

Designed to be a playable teaser – hence the name – for the upcoming Silent Hills game, it served as a gateway into the story being created. Unfortunately, when Silent Hills was cancelled that too meant that P.T went bye-bye.

Konami removed it from the PlayStation store, and basically made it nigh on impossible for fans to replay the game. To say fans were devastated is an understatement. Now, nine years later, we’re still mourning the death of what could have been. Reddit users came together to share in their grief, collectively agreeing that it still hurts, and the pain is all too real.

Clearly, considering Del Toro, one of the creatives that collaborated on the development of the game (technically it was a demo, but it feels wrong to say it), is still desperate to see it make a comeback.

In response to a The Game Awards’ tweet that drew attention to the nine year anniversary of P.T, Del Toro replied: “Ah... Konami... What sayeth thou? Irrumabo Konamitus.”

Del Toro is passionate about this project, having previously tweeted Konami about his feelings towards what could have been. However, his previous comments were… ahem… more heated. In 2016, the renowned director simply said “F*CK KONAMI” to The Game Awards’ premiere clip of Death Stranding.

Words were not minced, and for good reason. Since that first look at P.T, countless games have attempted to capture its essence, with the majority always falling short. None have managed to get the tone just right, which serves to make this situation all the more bitter-sweet.

Of course, there are devs attempting to revitalise the Silent Hill franchise, like Bloober Team, who promise the Silent Hill 2 remake will be 100% bigger. Consequently, the possibility that P.T will return isn’t completely dead in the water. However, it’s nothing more than a dream your heart makes… when you long to get scared half to death one more time.

We don’t know what the future holds, but what we do know is that Del Toro isn’t going to give up. And why should he? P.T is a symbol of hope to horror lovers everywhere – it must live on, and it will, one way or another.
