EA quietly kills off multiple games, including Dante's Inferno and Dead Space 2

EA will soon close down several online servers for some of its past games, including Dead Space 2, Crysis 3 and Dantes Inferno.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, given EA’s history of closing down servers, with the most notable examples being multiple Battlefield games which will soon lose multiplayer modes later this year. Battlefield 1943, Battlefield: Bad Company, and Battlefield: Bad Company 2 are all on the chopping block later this year, and what a devastating loss they’ll be.

Speaking of video game multiplayer, did you catch the Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare III announcement? Take a look below

I’m sure many will be disappointed by the server retirements but fear not, they’re still active at the time of writing and will be for a few weeks longer, so you’ve got time to say goodbye.

The first server getting killed off will be Crysis 3, which will see its end on the 7th of September. Next will be Dead Space 2 and Dante’s Inferno, which will both face termination on the same day, the 8th of December.

While EA hasn’t officially commented on the shutdowns, all three games will be dead by the time 2024 rolls around.

Out of all three titles, the saddest to see go will undoubtedly be Dead Space 2. While the Dead Space games are recognised for their single-player offering, the multiplayer for Dead Space 2 was a lot of fun. It saw teams of four go head-to-head as humans or necromorphs, completing or defending a series of objectives in a fight for survival.

While it’ll be sad to see the multiplayer go, there’s always the chance it returns with a fresh coat of paint in a Dead Space 2 remake.

Another honourable mention has to go to Crysis 3’s online modes, a classic FPS that included team deathmatch/objective-based gameplay. The remastered version of the game failed to include the multiplayer, so when the servers go offline in December, it’ll be gone for good.

Nothing lasts forever, and at least we’ll have plenty of memories to cherish when the servers are long gone. That being said, you’ve still got a few weeks to hop back on if you’ve never played them before, or just want to relive some of the days before the end.
