Dead Island 3 was just quietly confirmed by Dambuster Studios in the strangest way possible.
These days, major reveals are typically reserved for showcases; The Game Awards, Opening Night Live, and Summer Game Fest are some of the more obvious options that spring to mind.
We also then have State of Play, Nintendo Direct, and Xbox Showcase events which, these days, also unveil third as well as first-party titles.
It’s pretty uncommon that you just, say, randomly announce your game on social media. That is unless you’re Rockstar Games or Dambuster Studios it seems.

Yesterday, Dambuster posted on Twitter/X confirming that another Dead Island game is in the works in the most subtle way imaginable.
The tweet initially seemed to be celebrating a major milestone of Dead Island 2, which dropped back in 2022.
“14 years ago, Dead Island made its gory debut,” the tweet began.
“Today, Dead Island 2 has dragged 20 million Slayers into the sunny chaos of HELL-A.”

Then it began to get really interesting.
“The next outbreak? Dambuster is already drenched in the work. The journey is far from over,” it concluded.
To remove any doubt that this could be anything other than a sequel, I want to quote a press release I’ve since received.
“This is far from the end of the Zompocalypse though. Dambuster Studios has confirmed, today, that the team is already hard at work on the next chapter in the Dead Island saga, keeping details tightly under wraps for now. Fans can rest assured, though, the outbreak is far from over,” it read.

Yep, we’re definitely getting a sequel.
Of course, this is merely a tease of a sequel so I’m sure by the time the studio does have a trailer ready to go, it’ll probably debut at one of those aforementioned events.
Even still, it’s been funny watching the internet very slowly catch on to what’s happening here.
The image accompanying the tweet seems to further tease the sequel.

“When there’s no more room in Hell-A,” it reads as our protagonist skips town.
“Where will the next infection pop up?” asked one fan underneath.

“I dunno, but that’s a pretty picture we attached to the post huh,” replied the official Dead Island account.
Could the clue lie in the stickers and patches on the featured backpack and suitcase?
There’s a pretty prominent ‘I love Ireland’ sticker and one of Rome’s coliseum. Could we be getting a European adventure?
We’ll be keeping a close eye on all further updates.
