PlayStation Plus Quietly Adds Extra Free Game You Probably Missed

Don’t miss out on this!

PlayStation Plus subscribers can claim an extra freebie, and it’s one that we most likely all missed.

Well, when I say free game, it’s an addition to an upgrade of an existing PlayStation Plus title. More specifically, it’s a free PS5 upgrade for its PS4 version of the game. Which is cool, because sometimes, you can pay an additional £10 for similar upgrades.

Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service is packed full of games and bonus extras, regardless of whether you cough up the cash for PS Plus Essential, Extra or Premium tiers.

Of course, the higher the tier that you subscribe to, the more games you’ll have available, not only with PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 offerings, but also retro classics of yesteryear from previous Sony consoles gone by.

Furthermore, with PlayStation Plus Premium, you’ll get a curation of free movies, cloud streaming, trials and more at no extra cost. However, no matter the tier that you subscribe to, everyone will get exclusive discounts and bonus DLC.

Claim this free PlayStation 5 upgrade

As brought to our attention by Redditor kabirsingh84, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscribers can claim a free next-gen upgrade for Stellaris: Console Edition. The upgrade also applies to all previously released DLC.

If you own the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Stellaris: Console Edition, you too are eligible to claim the free upgrade without a PS Plus subscription.

What makes this upgrade special, especially for PlayStation Plus subscribers, is that upgrades are not always included in the subscription service.

“Explore a galaxy full of wonders in this sci-fi grand strategy game from Paradox Development Studios. Interact with diverse alien races, discover strange new worlds with unexpected events and expand the reach of your empire,” reads the synopsis of Stellaris. “Each new adventure holds almost limitless possibilities.”

It’s perhaps worth keeping in mind that, according to Reddit user Carn1feX616, the free new-gen upgrade does not apply to the PlayStation 4 disc version.

If true, that is disappointing, to say the least.

Unlike games included in the basic PlayStation Plus Essential tier, games included in the Extra and Premium tiers can come and go on a rotational basis to make way for new additions.

So if you were on the fence about Stellaris, you might want to claim this free new-gen upgrade for PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium before it's too late.

Stellaris: Console Edition is also currently included in Xbox Game Pass.
