Despite the game being in a far better state than when it first launched, Battlefield 2042 is being shelved.

When Battlefield 2042 launched in 2021, fans were devastated to see a once great FPS series in a miserable state.

Server issues, crashes, bugs and glitches were all present on launch day and proved to be much too frustrating for fans to bear, as many jumped ship quite early.

Seasonal content brought plenty of quality-of-life updates alongside new content, which over time ironed out the game’s core problems but unfortunately most of the damage had already been done.

Now it seems EA has decided it'd be best to leave the game behind after seven seasons in favour of new releases, as confirmed by Battlefield’s general manager Bryan Breede.

Breede said in a recent blogpost: “We have an ambitious vision to embrace and unlock the vast potential of the series’ class-based squadplay and immersive, intense battles.”

In an additional post Breede confirmed the team who works on the Battlefield games was expanding, bringing on new members who previously worked on the Dead Space remake and Star Wars Squadrons, both of which were also EA games,

Of course Battlefield isn’t the only series EA is currently supporting, as an Iron Man game is currently development, and it’s already been confirmed that a third Star Wars Jedi game is on the cards.

News on where the Battlefield series might be going unfortunately hasn’t been shared, leaving it up in the air if the next game will be a continuation of the series, a remake of sorts or a straight-up reboot.

For now though, fans can say goodbye to Battlefield 2042, which has a decent run towards the end of its life.
