Battlefield 6 is set to depart from some of the more controversial elements of its predecessor, and the decision to bring back a campaign mode is something that fans are getting excited about.
If you cast your mind back to 2021, Battlefield 2042’s launch was mired with a string of controversies.
Players were critical of the map design, the specialist system, and the lack of a campaign mode for the game, a reputation that it can’t separate itself from even four years later.
However, with Battlefield 6 launching next month, it’s clear that Electronic Arts is attempting to right the wrongs of the previous game by ensuring it takes more inspiration from earlier titles in the franchise.

And this includes bringing back the campaign mode that a lot of players missed, and would provide a little bit more context to the multiplayer settings.
Speaking to GAMINGbible back in July, Criterion Games Design Director Fasahat Salim told us about the decision to bring back the campaign mode for Battlefield 6.
“I think it was no secret that people missed the campaign,” Salim said. “Thinking about myself as a player, because I’m a Battlefield fan before anything else, I always play through the campaign.
“And I think what we’ve ended up with now is the campaign is back to laying the context for some of these levels that you’ll be playing in multiplayer. That was one thing that we know adds a little more depth to these environments, these massively large-scale battlefields that we’ve created, is having some context for why you’re there.

“Without that kind of context, I think that was something that the community said they missed. What we’ve really done is listen to what people have been saying, so I think people will be really excited with what we’re cooking up.”
We don’t know much about Battlefield 6’s campaign yet, but a deeper reveal will take place at Tokyo Game Show 2025 next week. As for what we do know, it takes place in the year 2027 and features a conflict between a fractured NATO and Pax Armata, a private military company.
If you’d like to know more about EA’s plans for Battlefield 6, you can check out our interview with Salim here, in which he spoke about the game’s different multiplayer maps, the revamped class system, and how exactly the new-and-improved Portal mode works.
Battlefield 6 will launch for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on 10th October, 2025.
