A New Nintendo Console May Be On The Way

A chip, previously rumoured to power Nintendo's next console, has reportedly been confirmed to exist.

Ever since the release of the Nintendo Switch back in 2017, people haven’t stopped going on about the possibility of a new, high-powered version of it releasing. The Switch is a lovely little thing, of course, with its portability offering something that no other console on the market can, but it’s undeniable that in comparison to the PS5 and Xbox Series X, it doesn’t have quite as much firepower.

As reported by Metro, we could apparently be closer to seeing a new, more powerful Nintendo console happen than we realised. One Reddit user has shared an alleged email sent by a Nvidia employee, who has reportedly revealed via a mailing list the existence of a new ‘system on a chip’ called the Tegra239. This was previously rumoured to be the chip which would power Nintendo’s next console.

Let’s rewind, because this is all slightly confusing. The current Switch uses a Tegra X1 chip, and it was claimed by a Nvidia leaker last year that Nintendo would use a Tegra239 chip (T239) in their next console. At that time, this chip’s existence wasn’t confirmed, but if this email is legitimate, it seems that it may now be a reality.

That said, there’s no direct mention of Nintendo, or any upcoming consoles in the alleged email, so it could be a complete coincidence. None of this is officially confirmed, so do take it with a very generous pinch of salt.
