American stand-up comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage while performing live at the Netflix Is A Joke Festival in Los Angeles.

The divisive comic was delivering a set at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday (May 3) when a member of the audience rushed the stage and tackled him to the ground. Footage of the incident has been circulating on social media, as you can see below.

Brianna Sacks, a reporter for Buzzfeed who attended the show, claims the man "charged" towards the end of Chappelle's set. Security swiftly intervened, and "rushed and started punching and kicking the s*** out of Chappelle's attacker".

Journalist Sharon Carpenter also described the incident on social media. She claims Chappelle was "assaulted" on the stage when the attacker "lunged at him, knocking him to the floor".

She added: "Security & his entourage then cornered the man as Dave joked about how him getting 'stomped' backstage [sic]".

Actor Jamie Foxx, who you'll probably have seen most recently in Spider-Man: No Way Home, was among those who ran on stage to help. However, Foxx said following the incident that he initially believed it to have been part of the show.

The comedian remained on stage after the attack to finish up his set. Meanwhile, further social media footage appeared to show the attacker - with a badly dislocated arm - being escorted to an ambulance.
