Popular YouTuber Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson has publicly responded to claims that the videos he makes which showcase him donating to people in need aren’t “really charity”.

The content creator, who at the time of writing has 137 million subscribers on his main channel and 12.1 million on his side channel Beast Philanthropy, recently released a video titled ‘Giving 20,000 Shoes To Kids In Africa’. In the video, Donaldson explained that many children have to walk to school barefoot since they don’t own any footwear, so he and his team decided to help.

As Dexerto reports, in a tweet that’s no longer publicly available, one Twitter user expressed their concerns that the YouTuber’s work “isn’t really charity”, as they believed that he makes a profit from the videos on the Beast Philanthropy channel. Responding to the tweet, Donaldson confirmed that this isn’t the case.

“No hate, you [probably] just haven’t seen this channel but it actually is a charity, and I obviously don’t profit from it,” he replied. “100% of all revenue from Beast Philanthropy goes towards running my food banks and helping ease human suffering, and since inception I’ve personally put in millions into Beast Philanthropy. That’s the whole point, make content around helping people to generate more money to help more people.”

Shortly after this, he tweeted: “Just a reminder for those of you that don’t normally watch this channel, Beast Philanthropy is a charity we run and all the revenue from these videos goes towards running our food pantries and helping people around the world. Our charity owns this channel, I thought it’d be fun to use my fame to create a loop of helping. Film good deed, inspire millions of kids to do good, use revenue from good deed to do next good deed.”

Many fans are full of praise for the YouTuber’s efforts: “Bro you're amazing! I love what you to do,” one tweeted. “Thank you for what you're doing. You are my inspiration!” another wrote.
