The next big project from the team behind Genshin Impact has finally been revealed, and it looks like the devs are going in a new direction with their upcoming Unreal Engine 5 title.
If you’re reading this article, I probably don’t have to tell you how monumentally massive Genshin Impact is. In fact, it's become such a commercial behemoth over the years that it’s genuinely difficult to quantify exactly how much revenue it has generated.
Here's what we do know: in its first two weeks of release, Genshin Impact grossed somewhere over 100 million dollars.
That then ballooned into 393 million dollars after two months, and then into a whopping 3.7 billion dollars, merely through revenue generated on mobile, after three years. Assumedly, that number would be a lot higher if they took the PlayStation 5 revenue into consideration, too.

At the end of 2024, it was reported that the game had grossed over 5 billion dollars in China alone. For a little bit of extra perspective on that statistic, according to a report from AppMagic via Business of Apps, China only generates roughly 41% of Genshin Impact’s total revenue.

So it is fair to say the game is a huge deal, which is probably why publisher MiHoYo, better known as HoYoverse outside of China, has been using its newfound riches on new projects, including Honkai: Star Rail in 2023 and Zenless Zone Zero in 2024.
Their streak of new releases doesn’t end there however, as MiHoYo just revealed that they’re hard at work on a new game.
As detailed in an article by Gosu Gamers' Timothy Augustin, MiHoYo has unveiled a teaser website for their currently untitled project. Beyond the teaser trailer on the website itself, which doesn’t exactly give anything away itself, details surrounding the upcoming project are scarce.
There is one interesting tidbit we can pull from the job listings on the new website, however. Thankfully, you don’t need to speak anything other than English to understand that the “UE5” referenced in all of the job posts is indeed referring to Unreal Engine 5.
Previous MiHoYo projects have been developed using the Unity game engine, which is probably why their upcoming project looks distinctly non-anime in style.
For now, that really is all we know, but keep an eye out for any big announcements in the next few months (like, for instance, whatever they’re planning on naming it).
