Popular open world gacha Genshin Impact has just dropped a new update to celebrate its fifth anniversary, and a huge expansion has arrived with it.

Genshin Impact is one of the most popular open world gacha games you can play at the moment, with fans appreciating it for its open world gameplay and expansive list of characters.

Even five years later, the game is still incredibly popular and receives regular updates from MiHoYo. And it’s just had a brand new expansion that adds a brand new region to explore.

The new update, which has been dubbed “Version Luna I: ‘A Dance of Snowy Tides and Hoarfrost Groves’”, adds in Nod-Krai, Teyvat's seventh major region, as an explorable environment.

The update also introduces new storylines, characters, and other new content to sink your teeth into. If you’ve completed Liyue's main questline, you’ll be able to immediately start the Archon

Quest in Nod-Krai and begin seeing the new content available in this update.

Three new characters native to Nod-Krai are joining the playable roster; Lauma, a 5-star Catalyst wielder, Flins, a 5-star Polearm wielder, and Aino, a 4-star Claymore wielder. These characters can be recruited for free as you progress through the new Archon Quest.

The update also adds new features and quality-of-life upgrades. Meeting Points, for example, allows you to gain a window into the everyday lives of your party, where you can hear characters tell you stories or share moments of warmth. It’s intended to round them out a little more.

There are also a bunch of special rewards coming to Genshin Impact as part of this update. Players can claim a free 5-star character from the Standard Wish, along with enough ascension materials required to level them up to level 60.

Logging in will also net you Intertwined Fate ×10, Primogems ×1,600, two special Nod-Krai-themed gadgets.

Genshin Impact originally launched in 2020, and was a big hit for players who wanted a new open world RPG to play in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic. It's had multiple updates and expansions over the years, which includes new regions, characters, and bosses. It even came to Xbox Series X/S consoles after four years in late 2024.

Genshin Impact: Version Luna I is available to download now as a free update to the game. You can grab it on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices now.
