The Sims Returns Through a Gorgeous Unreal Engine 5 Remake

Now that The Sims 5 dead in the water, this is the next best thing

Apologies to be the bearer of bad news, but you’re not getting The Sims 5 any time soon.

On the plus side, you can take a gander at another exciting project instead: one man’s valiant effort to remake the OG The Sims in Unreal Engine 5.

In case you missed this story, here’s the bad part; Electronic Arts has outright stated that The Sims 5 isn’t in active development, and apparently it won’t be for quite some time.

Earlier this month, EA’s Laura Miele sat down with Variety’s Jennifer Mass to talk about all of the publisher’s upcoming projects (and one project that isn’t, nor will be, upcoming for a while).

Miele revealed that EA believes that releasing a follow-up to The Sims 4 any time soon would not be “a good idea for our community”.

“What I wouldn’t want to have happen is you to have to start from day zero and start from scratch and give up all of the things that you have created… We put out over 85 content packs over the last 10 years on ‘The Sims 4,’ and so resetting that is not player friendly and not a good idea for our community”, Miele told Variety.

Regardless of whether or not you consider that to be good news or a disappointment, the fact remains that we won’t be getting a new entry in the series any time soon.

Thankfully, YouTuber Adam does GameDev has decided to take the challenge on himself, in his recent video titled “How I Remade The Sims in Unreal Engine 5”.

Adam is an experienced modder, and he helped produce the wildly popular S4MP mod for The Sims 4 that added multiplayer support to the game.

Even though his video only covers the initial stages of remaking The Sims, he makes a lot of impressive progress. He’s promised that new videos detailing the process are on the way soon, with the next entry focusing on adding fully functional Sims to the game.

Unfortunately, Adam also stated that he doesn’t plan to release the project to the public, so you won’t be able to play this one for yourself… unless, maybe, it gains a lot of traction?

Who knows? We’ll have to wait and see where he’s at whenever he releases his next development update.
