Amazon’s live-action God of War television series has finally cast its Atreus, but it may already spell bad news for Season 2.

As IGN reports, the role of Atreus in Amazon’s God of War will be played by actor Callum Vinson, joining Ryan Hurst’s Kratos, the titular character.

At just eleven years old, Vinson has already enjoyed roles in series like Chucky, Poker Face, and Long Bright River. He’s also set to play a young Jason Voorhees in the upcoming Friday the 13th reboot, Crystal Lake.

With such huge projects already under his belt, he’ll soon be able to add this major role in God of War to his resumé.

Amazon's Scheduling Could Spell Trouble For Atreus

Vinson is confirmed to be playing Atreus in the first season of Amazon’s God of War, but his casting may also spell bad news for a potential second season.

As players will know, God of War (2018) takes place when Atreus is 11 years old, the same age as Vinson. Its sequel, God of War: Ragnarok, occurs several years later when Atreus is around 14.

If the show’s second season covers the events of God of War: Ragnarok, Vinson’s character will need to be aged up to suit the role. Atreus looks a lot older in Ragnarok, plus his role in the story is a lot more action-packed.

This may be fine if the show takes a break between seasons (many TV shows take 2–3 years nowadays to develop a new season), but it could spell trouble if production speeds up in the same way Amazon has done with Fallout, where it was only around a year and a half between the first two seasons.

God of War has now cast a large chunk of its major roles. In addition to Vinson and Hurst playing Atreus and Kratos respectively, they are also joined by Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Max Parker as Heimdall, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, and Teresa Palmer as Sif.

Other important roles that are yet to be cast include Magni, Modi, Freya and Baldur, who will no doubt be cast before filming on the first season begins.

There’s also the possibility that Laufey, the wife of Kratos who dies prior to the events of the game, will also make an appearance. Fans are lobbying for Deborah Ann Woll, who played Faye in God of War Ragnarok, to reprise her role for the live-action series.
