While Grand Theft Auto is Rockstar Games’ biggest IP that doesn’t mean we should neglect its other bangers, namely Max Payne.
Rockstar Games fans have been begging the studio to re-release the Max Payne trilogy with updated visuals and controls but to no avail, as despite a lacklustre GTA: Trilogy remaster it seems like Rockstar isn’t willing to revisit the past anytime soon.
Fear not though because as we all know the community is more than willing to do what Rockstar won’t, or can’t.
Take a look at this gorgeous updated version of Max Payne 2: The Fall Of Max Payne running via RTX Remix with path tracing included.

You catch gameplay of it through a video by Digital Floundry and I’d say the results speak for themselves.
At the time of writing only the prologue has been updated but it’s an absolute beauty, the gameplay of Max Payne doesn’t feel like it’s aged a day.
I don’t know about anyone else but revisiting games like this on the original hardware, in this case the OG Xbox, doesn’t always live up to our expectations. I find the picture always looks darker than I used to remember, and this RTX Remix brightens things up to a more reasonable standard.
In my opinion it goes a little too bright in some areas so the lighting could be tweaked a bit going forward, but all in all it’s an impressive job.

If only Rockstar Games would listen to its fans and give us an official remake/remaster, though rumour has it one is on the cards.
It’s not just Max Payne that deserves another look either, GTA IV, Bully, and many more all deserve the remake/remaster treatment. Perhaps once GTA VI is out the studio will have more time for additional projects?
