At long last, Remedy has announced that the upcoming Max Payne remakes are entering their next stage of development.

Released in 2001 and 2003 respectively, Max Payne 1 & 2 were third person shooter games developed by Remedy Entertainment and published by Rockstar Games. With Rockstar also handling the development of Max Payne 3, Remedy is back to work with the studio on the remakes of the original two. The development in question has “progressed into the production readiness stage” according to a recent financial report.

“We have gained clarity on the style and scope of the game, and we have an exceptionally well-organized team working on it. With these accomplishments, we are excited about the project and its future success,” Remedy explained.

The Max Payne 1 & 2 remakes will be heading to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S and will be developed using Remedy’s Northlight game engine, the same engine used to make Control and the more recent Alan Wake 2. As you can probably expect, it will be a huge improvement to the titles that were originally released in the early 2000s.

For fans of Control, Remedy also issued an announcement about the upcoming sequel. However, we will be waiting a bit longer for that one as it is still in the proof-of-content stage. “The plans for this sequel are ambitious, and we have seen good progress both in the designs and in the game build,” Remedy wrote. “We will continue at this stage for the next few quarters. We focus on proving the identified key elements before moving to the next stage and scaling up the team.”

Last but not least, there was also news on the studio’s upcoming four-player co-op spin-off of Control titled Condor. Also in its proof-of-content stage, Remedy claims the studio is in “a better position to create a game players can engage with for years” after acquiring “valuable insights into developing service-based games”.
