Mass Effect 5 drops unexpected tease, it's small but we'll take it

We are not ready

The Mass Effect franchise is one of the most beloved in gaming but with the fifth instalment remaining mostly a mystery, fans are eager to learn more.

The Mass Effect series by BioWare kicked off back in 2007 with Mass Effect and was followed by two sequels, ending with spin-off Mass Effect: Andromeda back in 2017.

It has now been eight years since fans received the latest instalment and despite Mass Effect 5 having been announced back in 2020, BioWare is keeping details close to its chest on the highly-anticipated sequel.

What we do know is that Mass Effect 5 is still in the early stages of development which could mean that we may not see it released until at least 2028.

However, according to a hint from the franchise’s project director, Mass Effect 5 will go above and beyond to see this sci-fi RPG series stand amongst the greats.

This came after one Twitter user recently said, “Mass Effect 5 better stick to tradition and have an excessive amount of lens flare.”

Synonymous of the sci-fi genre after being made popular by directors such as Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams, lens flaring is achieved when light is passed through a lens, leaving a scattering of light.

The original Mass Effect trilogy made use of this artifact by featuring it on multiple occasions and it seems as though the same will be said for Mass Effect 5.

As reported by GamesRadar, Mike Gamble, who served as a producer and project manager for Mass Effect 2, 3, and Andromeda, responded to the original Tweet with an ‘ok’ emoji and although that is not much detail to go on, it would seem as though fans can expect a whole lot more lens flares in the upcoming entry.

Not only that but with technology having advanced tenfold since the first Mass Effect title was released almost 20-years ago, we can only imagine how stunning the sci-fi RPG will look when it inevitably releases.
