Mass Effect 5 Delay Leaves Gamers Angrier Than Ever

What is EA playing at?

Mass Effect fans are not best pleased with Electronic Arts with their mishandling of the franchise, and the latest update regarding the upcoming Mass Effect 5 from BioWare isn’t helping matters.

If you don’t count Mass Effect Legendary Edition, considering it was essentially just a re-release of the original trilogy, it’s been over eight years since Electronic Arts released a new game in the franchise (following the release of Mass Effect: Andromeda back in 2017).

Of course, BioWare is hard at work on a new entry in the Mass Effect series, but their most recent update isn’t exactly putting fans’ minds at ease.

Following a series of layoffs at BioWare, EA announced that they were restructuring and moving some of the devs on the team to other projects within the publisher.

This was then followed up by a blog post from BioWare's General Manager, Gary McKay, who stated that the developer doesn't "require support from the full studio" at the current stage of development… and that was back in January.

Since then, we’ve heard absolutely nothing. Oh, well, scratch that– the Mass Effect Twitter account did reveal that they have a sponsorship with some random company to produce rubber ducks of Garrus and Commander Shepard. Great stuff.

This radio silence has clearly upset a lot of fans, who have noted that, due to ballooning development times, we received three Mass Effect games in the time it’s taken EA to publish… zero new Mass Effect games.

Personally, I absolutely get it, and I am right there with you.

As the now legendary saying goes, I want shorter games with worse graphics made by people who are paid more to work less, and I'm not kidding.

Graphical fidelity is just too much of a sticking point for publishers these days, but I think we’d all gladly just play something that looked like it’s from the PS4/Xbox One generation at this point, as long as it actually released before we’re all in retirement homes.
