It feels like we’ve been waiting forever for the next instalment in the Mass Effect series, and reports state that we’re still some way out from seeing the fifth game.
The teaser trailer for Mass Effect 5 was dropped on N7 day, back in 2023, and since then it’s been pretty quiet as BioWare keeps cooking up the sequel.
Not long after that trailer, rumours began swirling that we’d be in for a wait as, at the time, Dragon Age: The Veilguard was yet to be released, and the next Mass Effect would begin production after that.

At the time, Jeff Grubb spoke on the Giant Bomb Game Mess Morning show to say of Mass Effect 5, “This game is just nowhere near coming out.”
He went on to say that the Mass Effect sequel would take as long to produce as Dragon Age did, meaning if we go by the time between announcement and release, the next Mass Effect game won’t be here until 2029.
Of course, timelines change all the time, however, the poor reception to the last Dragon Age game will have shifted priorities at BioWare.
There’s a high chance the team will be thinking over both plot and mechanics, seeing what was loved and hated in the latest Dragon Age title.

This could have impacted the timeline for Mass Effect 5, but if we want to be optimistic, the team could very well be gearing up to show off more of the game, and we get a pleasant surprise that it will launch sooner.
Just don’t hold your breath, or get those hopes too high, we could be in it for the long haul.
The fanbase wants nothing more than for this game to get things right, especially after the debacle with the ending to the third game.
So, let’s just let the devs cook and see what comes out soon.
