As we approach the year’s halfway point, we’ve already had some absolutely stellar video game releases, but looking at the horizon, there’s still far, far more to come.

From Star Wars Jedi: Survivor to Octopath Traveler 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, there’s a very decent chance that 2023’s Game of the Year is already out and in our hands. However, if any game is going to surpass the competition, it’s surely got to be Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.

Take a look at the trailer for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 below.

The highly anticipated sequel to 2018's excellent PlayStation-exclusive, Marvel’s Spider-Man, has had fans on the verge of explosion ever since it was announced in 2021, and it’s not hard to see why. Its predecessor was already one of the greatest PlayStation games out there, and the sequel is being built solely with the PS5 in mind. In theory, that means prettier visuals, smoother performance, and sweet, sweet DualSense haptics. Tasty.

In a recent interview with Japanese game magazine Famitsu, Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan spoke about the upcoming game, and teased that “no compromises” have been made during its development.

“I’m sure Marvel's Spider-Man 2 will be a very exciting launch. […] The sequel, Marvel's Spider-Man 2, is being developed exclusively for PS5, so the developers have made no compromises,” he said (translated by Google). “We [asked] them to focus on maximising the functions of the PS5 and creating the best works. As a result, we've received feedback from game fans that it looks like they'll be able to enjoy really beautiful visuals and a wonderful experience.”

At the time of writing, we’ve still not seen any gameplay for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and no specific release date has been given beyond the vague ‘autumn 2023’ window. Fingers crossed that’ll change during the PlayStation Showcase later this week - it's airing on Wednesday 24 May at 9PM UK time. Fans are hoping that the gameplay reveal will happen then, but that's not been confirmed. We'll just have to watch this space.
