Marvel fans lose it as X-Men unveils our new Apocalypse

A new Apocalypse has arrived

After making his Marvel debut in the mid-1980s, Apocalypse became one of the most imposing enemies of the comic book universe alongside the likes of Thanos and Kang the Conqueror.

Known as the world’s first mutant in Marvel, Apocalypse is a founding father of the Horsemen of Apocalypse and one of the X-Men’s most deadly threats. We did get a live-action version of Apocalypse in the 2016 movie X-Men: Apocalypse, but the less said about that, the better.

Check out the X-Men: Apocalypse trailer below!

However, going back to the world of comic books, as reported by Comnicbook.com, a new Apocalypse successor has been revealed in X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse #4. Also, please be aware of spoilers ahead.

“The survivors of Apocalypse's deadly trials confront the final test as their past, present and future converge,” reads the synopsis of issue four. “When the dust settles, only one will remain to safeguard mutantkind's destiny by any means possible. Only one will become...the HEIR OF APOCALYPSE.”

Apocalypse grilled would-be applicants to fill his shoes with a desire to know if they will continue his mission to make mutants the dominant species on planet Earth and replace us, puny humans.

After a series of gruelling battles in a mutant tournament held by Apocalypse to find his heir, Douglas Ramsey, otherwise known as the hero Cypher and close ally of the X-Men, was transformed into Revelation and now harnesses the power of a mighty god. What’s more, Bei the Blood Moon and Walock are named as his disciples.

Cypher morphing into Revelation and becoming the heir to Apocalypse certainly makes for an intriguing dynamic, especially with Bei the Blood Moon and Warlock at his side. Is this a ploy by the mutant once known as Douglas Ramsey to infiltrate the enemy from within and save our planet or are there sinister motivations afoot? Only time will tell.

X-Men: Heir of Apocalypse #4 is available now wherever you purchase your comics physically or digitally.
