We finally just got our first look at the new and improved Star-Lord… but hold off on getting mad about Peter Quill being replaced before you finish reading.
Thank you in advance to ComicBook's Tim Adams for the original source!
One of the biggest complaints about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is the effects it's had on the actual Marvel comics, as a bunch of changes the MCU has made keep finding their way into print.

I think it’s probably fair to say that, regardless of how popular and well-regarded James Gunn’s films have been, Guardians of the Galaxy is the biggest offender in this respect.
Star-Lord is often the main draw of this ire, as it wasn’t just his outfit that got an update, post-MCU… but rather that his entire personality changed.
Well, if you’re one of the folks who wish Peter Quill would revert to his less goofy, less Chris Pratt-inspired personality, then I have some good news for you, because we are so back.
Thunderbolts* is out now.
As revealed by Marvel on one of the alternate covers for their upcoming Jonathan Hickman-led series, Imperial #1, Peter Quill is going back to his old, proper classic look.

“IMPERIAL finds the galaxies of the Marvel Universe on the brink of major upheaval, following the elimination of several of its most prominent leaders,” reads the press release on Marvel’s official site.
“With groundbreaking developments for HULKS, BLACK PANTHERS, NOVAS, GUARDIANS and COSMIC KINGS and QUEENS, IMPERIAL lays the foundation for an entire new landscape of interconnected space-set stories, making it the must-read comic book of the summer!”
It’s not exactly confirmation that Peter Quill is going to be going back to his own ways, but having Hickman onboard for writing duties makes me hopeful.
And besides, whatever happens, man, that old costume is sick. I do like Chris Pratt’s look in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, but nothing beats a good set of shoulder pads.
