Marvel replaces Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury in new trailer

Marvel replaces Samuel L Jackson's Nick Fury in new trailer

And he's not happy.

In the latest trailer for Marvel Snap, it's shown that Nick Fury is now no longer the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and that his replacement is... you.

Bit meta, isn't it? Let's roll it back. From a huddle of former Hearthstone developers, Marvel Snap is a new collectible card game featuring over 150 iconic characters and it was released on PC, iOS and Android on 18 October. “Marvel Snap is unlike any card battler ever made," said chief development officer Ben Brode. "We’ve worked tirelessly to ensure that the game is super deep for hardcore players, while remaining very approachable so everyone can jump in and have a blast."

What's more is that it is the first game of its kind to promote you (yes, you) into the role of the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in this tongue-in-cheek trailer. Samuel L. Jackson, as acerbic and imposing as ever in the hero's trademark trench coat, enters the S.H.I.E.L.D. office with a sarcastic clap for the human resources lackeys. "Sorry to interrupt, but were you planning a surprise retirement party for me, too?" he queried.

The gist is that the Marvel Snap player is doing a far better job managing the super-powered egos of the Marvel universe than Fury did in his 15 years under his watchful eye. Heroes and villains like Spider-Man, Gamora, Doctor Doom and Squirrel Girl have already rallied to the gamer's side, leaving the former director in the cold. And I'm fairly sure that the gamer is played by Cassidy Layton, who was in Severance. Directors of S.H.I.E.L.D. come and go, but one thing is for certain: I can always crowbar a conversation back to Severance.
