The Last of Us fans believe development has begun on Part 3

The Last of Us fans believe that the development of Part 3 could already be underway.

The Last of Us fans believe that development has begun on The Last of Us Part III after several people involved in the project were spotted together. Coincidence? I think not.

Almost all good things come in trilogies in the video game world. Well, apart from you Half-Life 3 - and I’m not including Half-Life: Alyx. So, Valve, sort it out, okay? Anyway, let’s get back on topic. Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us series has been one of PlayStation’s most popular franchises of the last decade since its 2013 inception on PS3. In that time, the OG game has been remastered, remade and we got The Last of Us Part II in 2020.

Have you been watching HBO's TV series? Take a look at the episode eight promo below.

Oh, and there’s the smaller matter of the smash hit live-action adaptation from HBO. So surely, it should be a matter of time before Naughty Dog begins work on The Last of Us Part III, right? To be fair, Naughty Dog chief Neil Druckmann has teased Part III by telling The Hollywood Reporter that there’s more story to tell. What’s more, Druckmann also told Buzzfeed that the arrival of Part III all depends on whether the studio can tell another compelling story.

“Our process is the same thing we did when we did Part II, which is if we can come up with a compelling story that has this universal message and statement about love - just like the first and second game did- then we will tell that story,” said Druckmann.

However, fans are now putting two and two together all thanks to a group photo shared on social media. The photo in question not only features Neil Druckmann, but also Ashley Johnson (the voice of Ellie in the video game series), Shannon Woodward (Dina from TLOU2) and Halley Gross (co-writer of TLOU2).

Naturally, fans commenting on the thread are speculating that the group may have gotten together to discuss The Last of Us Part III. “Maybe discussing Part III,” said Twitter user Kevin Donnelly. “The Last of Us Part III confirmed,” replied the enthusiastic Daemon.

Obviously, we should take all rumours with a pinch of salt until proven otherwise. What's more, this photo could simply be a group of friends getting together to eat food and have a drink. That being said, I think we’d all be quite surprised if Naughty Dog didn't eventually release The Last of Us Part III, even if it means waiting for the PlayStation 6.
