The Last Of Us fans agree Ashley Johnson crushed it in the finale

The Last of Us may air on a Sunday, but Monday is the very important weekly debrief day. It’s the day that, once you’ve slept on your thoughts, we can all gather and discuss the latest episode in microscopic detail but alas, my friends, our fun has come to an end.

The Last of Us’ season finale has finally aired which means this time next Monday, it will simply be Monday - not debrief Monday. Can I get a sad sigh? Season one went out with a bang though, or several bangs if we’re talking about the non-stop bullets firing out of Joel’s rifle. Joel’s actions were certainly divisive, but most viewers are siding with the character. The episode also finally explained how Ellie is immune thanks to an incredible cameo from original Ellie actress Ashley Johnson.

The Last of Us Part I launches on PC on 28 March.

Having Ashley play Ellie’s mum is such a perfect full-circle moment. When Anna said, “You f**king tell ‘em Ellie,” I may have sobbed. Fans are completely in agreement that Ashley crushed it. Reddit user LoretiTV wrote, “Shoutout to Ashley Johnson who was absolutely phenomenal tonight - and to all the other voice actors from the game who did amazing work on the show this season - incredible performances.”

Meeko78 added, “Bravo to the creators for adding her in. She birthed Ellie metaphorically in the video game as we all know, and then to have her actually give birth to Ellie in the series is absolutely phenomenal,” while JoeyHaven14 added, “The second I heard her speak I heard Ellie. Just fantastic.” Woodnotedone wrote, “She was incredible. Ellie talking to baby Ellie made me so emotional.”

User not_a_witchdoctor said, “That part stabbed me in my emotional testicles. Holy f**k.” Interesting phrasing but yes. It was undoubtedly one of the season’s most poignant moments.
