Jon Favreau is excited to see how Grogu develops into his teen years, but wants to make sure fans of all ages can relate to him and his adopted father.
It’s Star Wars Celebration 2025 in Japan and Day 1 of the event has just about wrapped up from where I’m writing.
Some incredible stuff has been announced and teased, including a full episode of Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld shown off
It was The Mandalorian And Grogu that really headlined Day 1 though, and I had to ask Jon Favreau about what we can expect to see from it’s little green star Grogu.

Responding to the question of when we can expect to see Grogu go from baby-mode to angsty-teen phase Favreau said: Oh, that's interesting. He definitely grows slowly, but we definitely want to have progression with the character as we go, to open up the storytelling possibilities for both the relationship between the kid and the parent.
“As somebody who has three kids and my youngest now getting ready to leave for school, I definitely have vivid memories of what it was like through every phase of it, but they're really a new family, they were companions, but now [Grogu is Din’s] apprentice, and adopted son.”
He went to say that he’s excited about how the team will “build on is the relationship” going forward, but want to ensure, “new people who might be familiar with the characters, but not have watched every episode of the show could come along to the theater with other people who might be drawn more to it.”
In summary it’s a case of making sure “both audiences will be honored” with what comes next for Mando and his sweet baby boy.
